The Pleasure and Purpose of Music in Fifty Shades of Grey
The piece of music that I chose is titled “Love me like you do”, performed by Ellie Goulding, co-written by Savan Kotecha, Ilya Salmanzadeh, Ali Payami và Tove Lo with producers are Max Martin and Ali Payami. This is an electronic pop power ballad with content the same as the movie theme “Fifty shades of grey”, which refers to the non-controllable feeling of a girl in love and glamouring by a man that makes her unable to refusing, even that could make her suffer a lot of pain.
After it’s released, ‘Love Me like You Do’ received positive responses from music critics, in which they appreciated Goulding’s gentle voice as well as its epic melody. In addition, the song earned many international awards such MTV in 2015 and reached at the top 21 songs over 1 billion views in Youtube, and more another admirable records that Goulding did with this song.
The song starts to melancholy sound. This classical sounding is really an eye-grabbing moment in the film. It signals that something is about to happen. Accompanying the gentle sound is a groovy tune that has a chilled vibe of two characters in video. It changes into the chorus both vibrant sound with high voice vocal and footages. This cycle repeats three more times getting more climatic at each chorus. The song ends at a high point, ‘ what are your waiting for?’ emphasizing the disregard for falling in love of a girl. Each aspect really works in parallel here, visually, musically.
This particular song is influenced by what is happening in the film. “Fifty Shades of Gray “ is a 2015 British-American romantic movie directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson with a script written by Kelly Marcel, based on the novel of the same name by EL James. about the relationship between a rich billionaire businessman and a young student. Thank to success of novel and sound with capable of mesmerizing listeners, which is the reason to make up for overwhelming reputation of this song. Movie Fifty Shades of Gray An inspiring story that needs an inspirational soundtrack. In love, we need things like the lyrics in this song as seducing between two different sexes to pass and go together for the rest of our lives. For that reason, I respect this song and consider it a successful art and music in the world.
